Heatwave Returns as Monsoon Weakens in Parts of India; IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alerts for Multiple States on July 12
India is set to witness contrasting weather conditions on July 12 as heat and humidity return to Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh, while the IMD has issued heavy rainfall, thunderstorm, lightning, and landslide warnings for Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, six states and Union Territories are likely to experience increased heat due to deficient rainfall, strong sunshine, or heatwave conditions. A heatwave warning has been issued for Coastal Andhra Pradesh on July 11 and 12. Rainfall activity is expected to remain weak across western and eastern Rajasthan, resulting in intense sunshine and rising humidity. Punjab is also expected to witness higher temperatures as rainfall activity declines across the plains. Haryana and Delhi are forecast to experience hot weather with bright sunshine from the morning and persistently humid conditions. In western Uttar Pradesh, weather conditions are expected to remain largely clear, leading to intense sunshine and uncomfortable humidity.
The national capital and surrounding areas are expected to remain hot and humid on July 12. Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sonipat are likely to experience bright sunshine during the morning hours. Some areas may witness passing clouds and light drizzle during the afternoon or evening, which could further increase humidity.
Rainfall activity across the plains of Punjab is expected to weaken. Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Patiala are likely to record higher temperatures under bright sunshine. Although isolated pockets may receive light showers, no major weather warning has been issued for the state.
Monsoon conditions will remain highly active across eastern Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, and Varanasi are expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. In contrast, Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Agra in western Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness mainly clear skies with isolated showers and humid weather.
Bihar is expected to continue experiencing widespread rainfall. A Yellow Alert has been issued for lightning and thunderstorms across most districts, including Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, and Bhagalpur. These areas are likely to witness intermittent moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day on July 12.
Himachal Pradesh is forecast to receive widespread rainfall. Tourists and residents in Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, and Solan have been advised to remain cautious as heavy rain, dense fog in hilly regions, and the risk of landslides are expected at several locations.
Monsoon activity will remain fully active across Uttarakhand. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms has been forecast for Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Nainital. Pilgrims travelling on the Char Dham Yatra route have been advised to strictly follow weather advisories issued by the meteorological authorities.
Weather conditions in western Madhya Pradesh are expected to remain relatively calm, while cloud cover is likely across the eastern parts of the state. Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior are expected to witness partly cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
Monsoon showers are also expected to continue across Chhattisgarh. Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, and Bastar are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms, while some rural areas may also experience strong winds and storm activity, helping keep temperatures under control.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall. Siliguri, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch Behar are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Kolkata and adjoining Gangetic regions are expected to experience humid weather with light rainfall.
Monsoon activity is expected to slow across Rajasthan. Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Kota are likely to experience a combination of intense sunshine and humid conditions. Parts of eastern Rajasthan may witness dust storms followed by light showers during the afternoon.
The latest weather outlook highlights a sharp contrast across the country, with heatwave conditions and rising humidity returning to several northern states even as intense monsoon activity continues in eastern and northeastern regions. The IMD has advised residents in affected areas to remain alert and follow official weather advisories as rapidly changing conditions continue to impact different parts of India.
