India Marks Ashadhi Ekadashi as Millions Converge on Pandharpur for Historic Pilgrimage

India celebrated Ashadhi Ekadashi with nationwide fasting, prayers, and the beginning of the Chaturmas period. The historic Pandharpur pilgrimage reached its peak as devotees gathered at the Vitthal-Rukmini Temple, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the Mahapuja, announced farmer assistance, and the state deployed extensive safety, medical, and artificial intelligence-based surveillance measures.

India observed Ashadhi Ekadashi today with millions of devotees undertaking fasting, prayers, and acts of austerity as the sacred four-month Chaturmas period commenced. According to religious belief, Lord Vishnu enters a state of Yoga Nidra during this period and remains in divine rest until November, making the day one of the most significant occasions in the Hindu religious calendar.

In Maharashtra, the more than 700-year-old Pandharpur pilgrimage reached its peak as thousands of Warkari devotees arrived in Pandharpur carrying the ceremonial palanquins of revered saints Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram. The pilgrims gathered at the Vitthal-Rukmini Temple to offer prayers and participate in the traditional religious observances associated with the annual pilgrimage.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the ceremonial Mahapuja at the temple, honored devoted couples during the religious event, and announced assistance for farmers. The state government also implemented extensive arrangements to manage the massive influx of devotees, including temporary shelters, medical assistance, and artificial intelligence-based surveillance systems to ensure safety and smooth crowd management throughout the pilgrimage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders extended greetings on the occasion, describing Ashadhi Ekadashi as a festival that inspires devotion, compassion, and spiritual values among people across the country.
