Amid widespread rainfall activity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather update for the next 48 hours, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several regions. According to the IMD forecast, a warning has been issued for 17 states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, for July 25. During this period, stormy winds may reach speeds of up to 85 kilometres per hour.
The IMD stated that several major weather systems are responsible for the ongoing heavy rainfall. A well-marked low-pressure area has developed over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh, which is attracting large amounts of moisture towards central and northern India. The monsoon trough is extending from northern Rajasthan to northeastern India. Across the country, rainfall recorded from June 1 to July 8 has remained 15 percent below normal levels.
Heavy Rain and Storm Alert Issued for 17 States
The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall and thunderstorm alert for 17 states on July 25, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh. Stormy winds with speeds of 70 to 80 kilometres per hour are expected during this period. Northern states have also been placed under a strong wind alert.
Major cities under weather watch include Ahmedabad, Surat, Jamnagar and Rajkot in Gujarat, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.
Red, Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued Across Several Regions
The IMD has issued a red alert for the Gujarat region, eastern Rajasthan and central Maharashtra due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. An orange alert has been issued for western Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Goa. A yellow alert has been issued for Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Delhi Weather Forecast
The national capital Delhi is expected to receive rainfall on July 25 and 26, with a 95 percent probability of rain. The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall and storm warning for Saturday, predicting strong winds reaching up to 70 kilometres per hour.
Delhi is likely to record a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius on Saturday. The temperature may rise slightly during the day.
Uttar Pradesh Weather Update
In Uttar Pradesh, a warning for cyclonic winds and light rainfall has been issued for July 25 and 26. Heavy rainfall and storm warnings have been issued for Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Kanpur, Banda, Bijnor, Pilibhit, Moradabad, Bareilly, Bahraich, Sitapur, Balrampur, Kushinagar, Hardoi, Ayodhya, Unnao, Sultanpur, Amethi and Azamgarh.
Wind speeds may reach up to 80 kilometres per hour during this period. However, Lucknow is expected to witness clear skies on July 25. The maximum temperature may reach 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain around 28 degrees Celsius.
Gujarat Weather Update
In Gujarat, the monsoon impact will continue to bring heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday. The Saurashtra and Kutch regions have been warned of lightning activity and strong winds, which may create flood-like conditions in low-lying areas.
The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall with strong winds in Ahmedabad over the next two days. Heavy rainfall is expected in Surat, while Rajkot may witness torrential showers accompanied by thunderstorms.
Uttarakhand Weather Update
Hill districts of Uttarakhand are likely to witness rainfall along with the possibility of landslides on Saturday, July 25. Authorities have issued alerts in vulnerable areas due to rising water levels in rivers and streams.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall and lightning activity in Dehradun. Nainital faces a landslide risk and is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. The next two days may bring intense showers and cold winds in Rishikesh. Haridwar is likely to experience intermittent rainfall with cloudy skies.
Madhya Pradesh Weather Update
In Madhya Pradesh, several districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall due to the movement of the monsoon trough line. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms in Bhopal. Indore may experience intense showers, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 60 kilometres per hour. Jabalpur is also expected to witness dense cloud cover and heavy rainfall.
Bihar Weather Update
Bihar has been issued a warning for heavy rainfall and storms on July 25. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm alerts have been issued for Rohtas, Gaya, Patna, Nawada, Arwal, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar, Buxar and Bhojpur.
During this period, storm winds may reach speeds of 65 to 70 kilometres per hour. On July 25, Patna is expected to record a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius.
With the monsoon becoming active across multiple regions, the IMD alerts highlight the possibility of intense rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds and weather-related risks in several parts of the country. Authorities and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious as adverse weather conditions continue.
