A major accident was prevented when the Banaras-Mumbai LTT Express loco pilot applied emergency brakes after spotting an iron pipe on tracks between Iradatganj and Link Station in Uttar Pradesh. Railway officials confirmed the obstruction, RPF registered a case against unknown persons, and an investigation has been launched.

A major railway accident was narrowly averted after the loco pilot of the Banaras-Mumbai LTT Express applied emergency brakes upon spotting an iron pipe placed on the railway tracks between Iradatganj and Link Station in Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Thursday.

The train, which was travelling from Varanasi to Mumbai, was stopped at around 9 pm on Tuesday after the obstruction was detected on the track. The loco pilot immediately informed railway authorities about the situation.

North Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Shivam Sharma said the pipe appeared to have been thrown onto the tracks. He stated that the object was hollow and rusted.

Following the incident, the Railway Protection Force registered a case against unknown persons and initiated an investigation to identify those responsible for placing the obstruction on the railway track.
