Located near Kasheli Toll Plaza, the Kasheli Depot has been planned as a comprehensive facility capable of accommodating around 30 trainsets. The depot will include inspection bays, workshop lines, a test track, a Depot Control Centre, administrative facilities, staff quarters, utility infrastructure and advanced maintenance systems.
The depot is being constructed to support seamless operations, maintenance activities and stabling requirements of the 32 km Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan-Ulhasnagar Metro corridor. The facility will serve as a critical operational base for ensuring efficient and reliable metro services along the corridor.
To ensure long-term structural stability, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has partnered with IIT Bombay to implement advanced ground improvement techniques. Meanwhile, temporary inspection, testing and commissioning facilities are being established to facilitate phased rollout and operational preparedness of Mumbai Metro Line 5.
Highlighting the progress of the Kasheli Depot, Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis said, “The Kasheli Depot reflects Maharashtra’s commitment to building modern and reliable public transport infrastructure. Metro Line 5 will strengthen connectivity across Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Ulhasnagar while advancing our vision of a developed, well-connected Maharashtra.”
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA Chairman Shri Eknath Shinde said, “The Kasheli Depot will be central to the safe and efficient operation of Metro Line 5. Its steady progress brings the Mumbai Metropolitan Region closer to faster, reliable, and high-capacity public transport connectivity.”
The continued development of the Kasheli Depot highlights the progress of Mumbai Metro Line 5 and its role in transforming regional mobility. With advanced maintenance infrastructure, operational facilities and modern engineering solutions, the project is set to strengthen connectivity between Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Ulhasnagar while supporting Maharashtra’s vision of improved urban transportation networks.
