Anna Hazare Holds Two-Hour Silent Protest in Maharashtra in Support of Delhi Student Agitation

Social activist Anna Hazare held a two-hour silent protest in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, supporting protesting students in Delhi. He expressed concern over violence and police action, writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that public resentment should be understood as society’s expectations and concerns rather than only a law and order issue.

Social activist Anna Hazare on Thursday observed a two-hour silent protest in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, expressing his support for students protesting in Delhi. The demonstration reflected his concern over the ongoing unrest and the reported police action against protesters.

According to Hazare’s aide Datta Awari, the protest began at 11 am and concluded at 1 pm. Hazare staged the silent protest at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Ahilyanagar before leaving for his village, Ralegan Siddhi, located in the same district.

Earlier on Wednesday, Hazare wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his distress over the developments surrounding the protests. He stated that "the news of violence and police action is extremely painful".

In his letter to the Prime Minister, Hazare said the dissatisfaction among protesters should not be treated merely as a law and order issue. He emphasized that the concerns raised by protesters should be viewed as "the agony and expectations of society".
