GDAI Launches Supernova Incubation Program to Accelerate India's Game Development Ecosystem
The Game Developer Association of India has launched Supernova, a national incubation program to help Indian gaming studios scale from development to publishing. Backed by leading global industry partners, the initiative offers mentorship, artificial intelligence expertise, funding support, publisher access, legal guidance, and business advisory to strengthen India's rapidly growing game development ecosystem.
Supernova has been introduced to bridge the long-standing gap in India's independent game development sector by providing structured mentorship, venture funding opportunities, publisher access, and expert guidance on integrating artificial intelligence into game production pipelines. The program is designed to strengthen the commercial capabilities of Indian studios while enabling them to compete in global markets.
The incubation initiative is open to studios at multiple stages of development, including student teams, early-stage prototype creators, publisher-ready studios, and investment-ready companies. Participants will receive stage-specific mentorship from experienced gaming industry leaders, along with support in publisher engagement, investor readiness, and the adoption of artificial intelligence-driven game development workflows. The program will also provide business advisory services, legal and intellectual property guidance, cloud infrastructure, startup technology benefits, and direct access to publishers, platform holders, and ecosystem partners.
The launch comes at a time when India's gaming industry continues to witness rapid expansion. According to Mintegral's India Gaming Growth Outlook 2026, India has one of the world's largest gaming audiences, with the next major challenge being the ability of studios to scale sustainably through stronger publishing capabilities, improved monetisation strategies, business growth, and access to international markets. The MIXI Global Investments report, India's State of Play, projects that the country's combined in-app purchase and advertising revenue will reach USD 2.4 billion by 2029.
GDAI stated that Supernova will contribute to strengthening India's game development ecosystem, which currently comprises more than 2,000 companies employing approximately 130,000 professionals. The initiative also aligns with the association's long-term vision of creating more than two million jobs in the gaming sector by 2034.
Speaking on the launch, Rajan Navani, Board Member and Chairperson of the GDAI Incubation Subcommittee, said India possesses all the essential ingredients to become a global leader in game development, including creative talent, entrepreneurial energy, and a rapidly expanding domestic market. He stated that the next phase of industry growth would depend on enabling founders to build sustainable studios capable of developing globally successful intellectual property, adding that Supernova represents an important step towards establishing a strong long-term ecosystem.
Shruti Verma, Chief Executive Officer of GDAI, said discussions with gaming founders across the country over recent months had revealed common challenges in transitioning from game development to building sustainable businesses. She noted that many studios struggle to secure publisher partnerships, raise growth capital, adopt artificial intelligence-powered production workflows, and successfully move from prototype development to commercial success. Through Supernova, she said, GDAI is bringing together mentorship, publishing access, artificial intelligence expertise, and industry networks to help founders build investment-ready and globally competitive game studios.
The incubation program will conclude with a Demo Day during the India Game Developer Conference 2026, where participating studios will present their games before publishers, investors, and industry leaders from India and international markets.
GDAI announced that the first cohort of selected studios will be revealed by August 2026. The final date for submitting applications is July 31, 2026.
