One Killed, Another Critically Injured After Water Tanker Touches Overhead Power Line in Sambhajinagar; Series of Electrocution Deaths Raises Alarm Across Maharashtra
A man was killed and another critically injured after a water tanker came into contact with an overhead power line in Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The incident occurred while water was being supplied to residents and comes amid a series of electrocution deaths reported across the state, raising serious concerns over electrical safety during the monsoon season.
The deceased has been identified as Shivaji Sahebrao Bhumre, aged 58. According to officials, the accident took place while a tractor-mounted water tanker was distributing water to residents in the area. During the operation, the tanker came into contact with an overhead electricity line, causing a powerful electric current to pass through both the tractor and the tanker.
The sudden surge of electricity resulted in Shivaji Sahebrao Bhumre and Manoj Ramnath Bhumre suffering severe electric shocks, causing both men to collapse on the ground.
Residents immediately rushed the injured men to the Rural Hospital in Pachod. Medical officers declared Shivaji Sahebrao Bhumre dead on arrival. Manoj Ramnath Bhumre sustained serious injuries and was provided first aid before being referred to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for advanced medical treatment.
The Pachod Police Station has launched a detailed investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
The tragedy comes just a day after at least three separate electrocution incidents claimed lives in different parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai. In Dombivli East, a 24-year-old woman died after reportedly coming into contact with a live electric wire lying on a waterlogged road during heavy rainfall.
In another incident, a 26-year-old employee of a local sweet shop was electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire in Bhiwandi town of Thane district. Separately, a 17-year-old girl lost her life after allegedly coming into contact with a live electric wire submerged in rainwater in the Mumbra area of Thane.
The latest fatal accident in Sambhajinagar, coupled with multiple electrocution deaths reported across Maharashtra within a short span, has intensified concerns over public safety and electrical hazards, particularly during the monsoon season, as authorities continue their investigations into the incidents.
