Delhi Traffic Alert: Old Vehicles Face Entry Ban From November 1, 2026, Under GRAP
Delhi will restrict entry of older vehicles from November 1, 2026, under GRAP. Check which BS-VI, petrol, diesel, CNG, EV and interstate vehicles will be allowed into the capital until January 31.
The Delhi Traffic Police has announced the restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The new rules will apply to vehicles entering Delhi from November 1, 2026, and are aimed at reducing vehicle-related pollution as air quality deteriorates during the winter months.
Commuters travelling between Delhi and Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, or other states will need to check whether their vehicles meet the eligibility criteria before starting their journey. Vehicles that fail to comply with the prescribed standards could face restrictions at Delhi's borders.
According to the advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police, BS-VI vehicles, CNG vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs), and vehicles covered under applicable exemptions will be permitted to enter the national capital.
The restrictions will apply to vehicles that do not meet BS-VI emission standards. Petrol and diesel vehicles below the BS-VI standard will be prohibited from entering Delhi under the new rules.
Vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) will also face restrictions. Interstate buses that fail to comply with the prescribed rules will not be permitted to enter the city.
The restrictions will cover vehicles entering Delhi from other states, while vehicles registered in Delhi will continue to be allowed entry.
Under the new rules, BS-VI petrol and diesel vehicles registered in other states will be permitted to enter Delhi. CNG, electric and LNG vehicles will also be allowed.
However, petrol and diesel vehicles below BS-VI standards will face a complete entry ban. Diesel buses from other states will be permitted only if they meet BS-VI emission standards. Non-BS-VI goods carriers from other states will also be prohibited from entering Delhi.
The restrictions will come into effect on November 1, 2026, and remain in force until January 31, 2027.
The Delhi Traffic Police has also issued directions for trucks travelling through the national capital. Trucks that do not have Delhi as their destination will be required to use the Peripheral Expressways instead of entering the city.
Trucks passing through Delhi will have to use the Eastern or Western Peripheral Expressway to avoid entering the national capital.
The measures have been introduced amid deteriorating air quality across Delhi-NCR and rising pollution levels. The restrictions are intended to reduce vehicle emissions during the winter season.
The Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to check their vehicles' eligibility before travelling and follow the official traffic advisory to avoid inconvenience.
With the new restrictions scheduled to begin on November 1, vehicle owners travelling to Delhi from neighbouring cities and other states will need to ensure their vehicles comply with the prescribed emission standards and documentation requirements before entering the capital.
