Rahul Gandhi Postpones Public Impeachment Programme Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar to October 31
Rahul Gandhi has postponed the INDIA bloc's public impeachment programme against CEC Gyanesh Kumar to October 31 due to rain. The opposition has also announced a Sunday 'Chalo Delhi' march and rally.
Speaking at a joint press conference with INDIA bloc leaders outside Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence at 10, Rajaji Marg, Gandhi said all alliance leaders had unanimously agreed to postpone the programme by a day due to the prevailing weather conditions.
“We have unanimously decided to hold today’s programme tomorrow at the same time,” Rahul Gandhi said.
Gandhi also announced that the INDIA bloc would organise a ‘Chalo Delhi’ march and rally on Sunday. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with his team, of collectively destroying democracy in the country.
He alleged that the Home Minister was making every possible effort to prevent people from reaching Delhi. According to Gandhi, party workers and ordinary citizens were being stopped from travelling to the national capital.
“Watch what happens at Ramlila Maidan, and you will understand what is happening in the country. People are experiencing immense anger and pain because the rights of millions are being taken away,” Gandhi said.
Calling for wider participation, Gandhi appealed to everyone who wants to protect the Constitution to join the march and rally on Sunday.
According to sources, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will preside over the INDIA bloc’s public impeachment programme against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Mallikarjun Kharge will move the impeachment ‘proposal’, while Rahul Gandhi will deliver the concluding address before the proposal is put to a vote.
Apart from Kharge and Gandhi, one representative from each constituent party of the INDIA bloc will also present their views during the programme.
The postponement has shifted the alliance’s planned public action against the Chief Election Commissioner to October 31, while its ‘Chalo Delhi’ march and rally are scheduled for Sunday, with the INDIA bloc urging people to participate in its campaign to protect the Constitution.
