Prayagraj to Delhi, Mumbai and Surat: Railways to Lease Parcel Space in 5 Trains
North Central Railway's Prayagraj Division plans to lease parcel space in five major trains connecting Prayagraj, Kanpur, Delhi, Mumbai and Udhna. Traders can participate in the November 17 e-auction to secure railway freight space.
The railway division has announced plans to lease parcel space in five trains through an e-auction scheduled for November 17. Under the initiative, parcel space in SLR coaches with a capacity of 3.9 tonnes will be made available to interested traders and businesses.
The move aims to promote parcel transportation through the railways and provide traders with an alternative to transport goods according to their requirements.
The five trains selected for the initiative include the Prayagraj-New Delhi Humsafar Express, which will offer the facility four days a week. The Kanpur-New Delhi Shatabdi Express will provide parcel space three days a week.
The Kanpur-Bandra Terminus Express and Prayagraj-Udhna Express will each offer the facility one day a week. Meanwhile, the Kanpur-Durg Betwa Express will provide parcel transportation services two days a week.
Through this arrangement, traders will be able to transport their goods using railway services based on their business requirements and the availability of parcel space in the selected trains.
The railway has already issued a tender for leasing the parcel space. Interested traders will have the opportunity to secure the space through an e-auction scheduled for November 17.
The process will enable businesses and companies interested in railway parcel transportation to participate in the auction and obtain the facility for transporting their goods.
The initiative is expected to make it easier for traders to send goods to major commercial centres, including Delhi, Mumbai and Surat. Transporting goods by rail is expected to offer lower costs compared with road transportation.
The facility will also provide businesses with an option for safe and time-bound transportation of goods, potentially supporting commercial activities.
Amit Kumar Singh, Public Relations Officer of the Prayagraj Division, said that the tender for the initiative had been issued.
The railway division's initiative is aimed at expanding parcel transportation services and providing traders with an additional option to move goods to major business destinations through the railway network.
