Pesa Partners with Jupiter Wagons to Manufacture Passenger Trains in India
Pesa and Jupiter Wagons have signed a cooperation agreement to manufacture passenger trains and locomotives in India, develop rail components for global markets and explore hydrogen-powered vehicles under a new partnership.
Under the partnership, the companies will explore opportunities to jointly develop and produce passenger rail vehicles in India. The agreement marks a new direction for Jupiter Wagons, which, despite its existing partnerships in the freight wagon component manufacturing sector, has not previously produced passenger rolling stock.
Jupiter Wagons has been expanding its capabilities in railway component manufacturing through partnerships with international companies. In particular, it is developing wheelset production in collaboration with Slovakia’s Tatravagonka.
Since 2024, the two companies have been operating a plant in Aurangabad with an annual production capacity of 20,000 wheelsets. A second facility specialising in the same segment is scheduled to begin operations in the Indian state of Odisha in 2027. The upcoming plant will have an even greater annual production capacity of up to 100,000 wheelsets.
Earlier in 2026, Jupiter Wagons announced its entry into the European Union’s wheelset market, marking its expansion into the EU.
Pesa CEO Krzysztof Zdziarski said India had become one of the most attractive markets for the Polish manufacturer, which had been monitoring the country’s potential for years.
“India is one of the most attractive markets in the world. We have been watching it for years, and now we are gaining a partner with whom we can jointly carry out projects and deliver vehicles to Indian operators. This could become one of our most important markets outside Europe,” Zdziarski said.
The partnership comes as Pesa strengthens its production, research and development capabilities and prepares to support new contracts and export orders. Earlier in 2026, the Polish manufacturer secured €1.6 billion in financing for these objectives.
The agreement with Jupiter Wagons brings together Pesa’s rail vehicle technologies and the Indian manufacturer’s production capabilities, opening the way for joint passenger rolling stock projects, component manufacturing and potential hydrogen-powered rail transport development in India.
