BD Expands Breast Cancer Care in India with New Markers and HCP Training
BD India introduces UltraCor™ Twirl™ Breast Tissue Markers and conducts training across four cities, bringing together over 290 healthcare professionals to advance minimally invasive breast cancer care.
As part of its ongoing commitment to advancing breast cancer management, BD continues to invest in innovation and healthcare professional (HCP) education. Its initiatives include an expanding portfolio of minimally invasive technologies and specialised training programmes aimed at improving procedural confidence and supporting better patient outcomes.
A key development is the introduction of BD's UltraCor™ Twirl™ Breast Tissue Markers in India. Breast tissue markers are implanted during or after a biopsy to identify the location of suspicious lesions. These markers help clinicians accurately locate lesions during subsequent surgery, imaging follow-ups and treatment planning, particularly when the lesions are no longer visible after the initial procedure.
With the growing adoption of minimally invasive breast procedures and Vacuum-Assisted Excision (VAE) techniques, accurate lesion localisation has become increasingly important. Breast cancer treatment often involves extended clinical pathways, including serial imaging, neoadjuvant therapy, surgery and follow-up surveillance. For patients at risk of disease recurrence or those requiring monitoring of lesion response over time, precise marking of lesion locations plays an important role in tracking treatment progress, maintaining procedural accuracy and supporting informed clinical decisions throughout the patient journey.
Healthcare providers therefore require marker technologies that remain stable within breast tissue and can be clearly identified through different imaging modalities over time.
Designed to address these clinical requirements, the UltraCor™ Twirl™ Breast Tissue Markers offer enhanced stability and precise placement. The technology is designed to reduce the risk of marker migration and provides visibility across ultrasound, mammography and MRI. The markers are expected to support healthcare providers in delivering advanced minimally invasive breast care while helping optimise treatment planning and follow-up procedures.
Atul Grover, Managing Director, BD India/South Asia, said, “Aligned with our purpose of advancing the world of health, BD has been at the forefront of introducing innovative technologies and training HCPs continuously towards best practices for enhanced patient care. With the launch of the UltraCor™ Twirl™ Breast Tissue Markers we are confident of further supporting health care providers in India with advanced minimally invasive breast care technologies that align with evolving clinical needs and improve procedural outcomes that enable patient comfort.”
A participating clinician said, “The integration of advanced biopsy techniques with reliable marker technologies is critical for seamless patient care. Initiatives like this training play an important role in bridging evidence with real-world practice.”
The UltraCor™ Twirl™ Breast Tissue Markers are now available across India. BD teams are also supporting healthcare providers through training sessions and clinical education programmes to encourage the adoption of the technology.
Alongside the product introduction, BD has expanded its educational initiatives to strengthen knowledge exchange and promote evolving best practices in breast interventions. The company organised a multi-city educational programme for Interventional Radiologists, Surgical Oncologists and Gynecologists across India, focusing on Vacuum-Assisted Excision (VAE) technology and the use of breast tissue markers in contemporary breast cancer management.
The programme was conducted across Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai, bringing together over 290+ healthcare professionals (HCPs) for a multidisciplinary scientific agenda focused on reinforcing evolving best practices in breast interventions.
The educational sessions featured renowned global key opinion leader Dr. Henrique Lima Couto, Breast Surgeon-Mastologist at REDIMAMA–REDIMASTO, Brazil. His participation added international clinical perspectives to discussions on optimising treatment outcomes and advancing minimally invasive breast care.
Through its introduction of the UltraCor™ Twirl™ Breast Tissue Markers and multi-city clinical education programme, BD is combining technological innovation with professional training to support the evolving requirements of breast cancer interventions in India.
