Operation Sindoor: Government Officially Reveals Names of Six Indian Soldiers Killed During Cross-Border Military Operation After One Year
More than a year after Operation Sindoor, the Government of India has officially disclosed the names of six Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the cross-border military operation against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The recognition through the National War Memorial marks the first official confirmation of the operation's military casualties.
The names of the six fallen soldiers have been published in the "Roll of Honour" section of the National War Memorial and have also been inscribed on Wall 3D at the memorial in New Delhi, a section dedicated to members of the Armed Forces who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation.
The soldiers officially recognized are Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Headquarters 10 Infantry Brigade, Rifleman Sunil Kumar of 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, who was awarded the Vir Chakra, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Field Regiment, Aviation Technician Mood Muralinaik of 851 Light Regiment, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of 237 Field Workshop Company, and Sergeant Surendra Kumar of 39 Wing, who was awarded the Vayu Medal.
Until now, the government had not officially revealed the identities of personnel killed during Operation Sindoor. During the four-day military confrontation between India and Pakistan in May 2025, reports and speculation regarding military casualties had circulated widely, but no official confirmation had been issued.
The publication of these names in the National War Memorial's Roll of Honour represents the first official confirmation of the Armed Forces personnel who laid down their lives during the operation.
Operation Sindoor was launched on the morning of May 7, 2025, just weeks after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. The attack claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of whom were tourists, and prompted India to carry out military strikes targeting terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The official recognition of the six soldiers through the National War Memorial serves as a significant acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by Indian military personnel during Operation Sindoor and records their service and sacrifice as part of the nation's military history.
