The incident occurred at around 10 pm on Tuesday at a petrol station in the city. The victim, identified as Akash Sengar, suffered severe burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Jayarogya Hospital. His father, Ramchandra Sengar, who rushed to rescue him, also sustained burn injuries during the incident.
According to police, three men arrived at the petrol pump on a Bullet motorcycle and became involved in an argument with Akash Sengar over the price of fuel. What initially began as a verbal altercation quickly escalated into a violent attack. Investigators said one of the accused allegedly poured petrol on Akash and ignited it using a lighter.
Witnesses reported scenes of panic as Akash, engulfed in flames, screamed for help. Hearing the commotion, his father Ramchandra Sengar, who works as a security guard at a nearby tour and travel office, rushed to the scene and attempted to save his son. During the rescue effort, he suffered burns to his legs.
Local residents immediately intervened, helping to extinguish the flames before rushing both father and son to the burn ward of Jayarogya Hospital for emergency treatment. Police said Akash sustained approximately 37 percent burn injuries, and his condition remains critical.
An FIR has been registered in connection with the case. Police have arrested two accused, Doli alias Anuj Gurjar and Sachin Gurjar, while a third accused, identified as Arvind Chhavai, remains absconding.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the circumstances leading to the attack.
The incident has triggered concern over the extreme violence that erupted from a routine dispute, with authorities continuing efforts to apprehend the remaining accused and complete the investigation into the brutal assault.
