Tragedy at SMS Hospital: Contract Nursing Staff Member Dies by Suicide, Sparks Massive Protest in Emergency Ward
A contract nursing staff member at SMS Hospital, identified as Deepak Kharwal, died by suicide after reported job termination stress, triggering a large protest by nursing staff in the emergency ward. Senior officials including B. L. Goyal, ADM South Yugantar Sharma, and SMS Medical College leadership rushed to the scene as police were deployed to control escalating tensions and restore order.
Following the incident, a large number of nursing staff members gathered in the emergency ward of SMS Hospital, leading to a significant protest and disruption. The situation escalated rapidly, creating a tense atmosphere both inside and outside the emergency area.
Upon receiving information about the incident and the ensuing unrest, Commissioner of Medical Education B. L. Goyal reached SMS Hospital to assess the situation and engage with the concerned parties. Additional District Magistrate (South) Yugantar Sharma also arrived at the hospital to monitor administrative coordination and law-and-order concerns.
Senior officials including SMS Medical College Principal Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, Additional Principal Dr. R. K. Jain, and Additional Principal Dr. Jitendra Singh Shekhawat held discussions with the authorities present at the site to address the escalating tension.
Meanwhile, elected representatives including MLA Rafiq Khan and Amin Kagzi were also present at the hospital and engaged in discussions regarding the incident and its aftermath.
In response to the growing crowd and heightened tension, a heavy deployment of police force was made both inside and outside the emergency ward to maintain order and prevent any further escalation.
The incident has raised serious concerns over workplace stress, employment insecurity, and administrative response within the hospital system, as authorities continue to manage the situation and coordinate further action.
