Sunny Deol's Emotional Depth Sets Him Apart, Says Director Siddharth P. Malhotra Ahead of Ikka Release

Director Siddharth P. Malhotra has praised Sunny Deol's emotionally driven acting style ahead of the release of Ikka, describing him as an actor who fully lives every scene. The film reunites Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna after 26 years in a courtroom drama that explores truth, conflict, and past consequences, and premieres on Netflix on July 10.

Veteran actor Sunny Deol, widely regarded as one of Hindi cinema's most powerful performers, continues to earn praise for his commanding screen presence, powerful dialogue delivery, and emotionally driven performances. Director Siddharth P. Malhotra has now shared his experience of working with the actor in the upcoming film Ikka, describing him as an artist who lives every emotion rather than merely delivering lines before the camera.

Speaking in a recent interaction, Malhotra said Sunny Deol is among the rare actors who fully immerse themselves in every scene. According to the director, the actor experiences every emotion of his character, including pain, anger, happiness, and vulnerability, before portraying it on screen. He said working with Sunny Deol is a unique experience because every performance is rooted in sincerity and emotional truth.

Malhotra also praised the actor's discipline and dedication on set. He revealed that Sunny Deol spends considerable time understanding the emotional context, circumstances, and psychological state of his character before filming any scene. As a result, his dialogues do not simply reach the audience's ears but resonate deeply with their emotions. The director added that while many contemporary actors focus heavily on technique and style, Sunny Deol remains committed to the authenticity of performance. He noted that the actor is often remembered for his powerful dialogues, but his true strength lies in fully experiencing every emotion before facing the camera.

Ikka also marks the reunion of Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, who last shared screen space in the 1999 film Border. After nearly 26 years, the two actors will once again appear together. Speaking about their collaboration, Malhotra said the contrasting acting styles of Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna make the film even more compelling. According to him, when two performers with completely different approaches to acting confront each other on screen, the impact of every scene naturally becomes stronger.

Elaborating on Sunny Deol's performance style, the director described him as a deeply emotional actor whose expressions often communicate more than words. He said audiences usually remember the actor's powerful dialogues, but his eyes are equally expressive and frequently convey the full emotional weight of a character without any dialogue. Malhotra explained that Sunny Deol first understands exactly what his character is experiencing before adapting the dialogues in his own style, ensuring that every line is delivered only after it has been genuinely felt.

Discussing Akshaye Khanna's approach, Malhotra said the actor works in an entirely different manner. He explained that Akshaye first analyzes the entire scene intellectually and carefully understands the director's expectations before performing with remarkable precision. According to Malhotra, Akshaye's experience often allows him to deliver a scene exactly as envisioned by the director in a single take. He emphasized that both actors are exceptional in their own ways and that their contrasting methods of performance add a distinctive dimension to the film.

The director also revealed key details about the storyline of Ikka. Sunny Deol portrays an honest, principled, and highly respected lawyer, while Akshaye Khanna plays a man accused of murder. The story revolves around the revelation that Sunny Deol's character had previously played a decisive role in changing the accused man's life. The two characters eventually confront each other in court, where the battle between truth and falsehood is intertwined with unresolved conflicts from the past. According to Malhotra, this courtroom confrontation forms the central strength of the film.

Ikka is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 10. With two accomplished actors returning together after more than two decades and portraying opposing forces in a courtroom drama, the film promises an emotionally charged confrontation built on contrasting acting styles and compelling character dynamics.
