Revenue Officer Threatened With Gun During Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Madhya Pradesh, Accused Ordered Son to Bring Firearm
A revenue enforcement operation against illegal soil excavation in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district turned violent after the accused allegedly threatened to shoot a Tehsildar and ordered his son to bring a firearm. Police have registered a case, launched a manhunt, and are examining the viral video as key evidence in the investigation.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, and a video of the confrontation surfaced on Friday, triggering widespread concern among revenue officials and raising fresh questions over the increasing boldness of those involved in illegal excavation and sand mining-related activities.
According to officials, Tehsildar Sachin Bhargava had received information that soil was being illegally excavated from government land near the Sindh River. Acting on the information, he reached the location along with members of the revenue department, including a land records officer, village watchman Sunil Kumar Prajapati, and other officials.
During the inspection, the team allegedly found a Hydra excavator and two tractor-trailers being used to excavate and transport soil. Officials suspect that the excavated soil was intended to create an access route for illegal sand mining operations.
As the revenue team initiated proceedings to seize the machinery and vehicles, the situation quickly turned hostile. The accused, identified as Jaimandal Yadav, his father Lakhan Yadav, and his son Vikul Yadav, allegedly surrounded the officials and obstructed them from carrying out their official duties.
The viral video allegedly captures Jaimandal Yadav threatening Tehsildar Sachin Bhargava by saying that he would shoot him and accept imprisonment for the act. He then allegedly instructed his son to bring a firearm from their residence, further intensifying the confrontation.
According to the police, amid the chaos, the accused managed to escape with the Hydra excavator and one tractor-trailer. However, the revenue team successfully seized another tractor-trailer loaded with illegally excavated soil and handed it over to the police.
Following a written complaint submitted by village watchman Sunil Kumar Prajapati, the Badarwas Police Station registered a First Information Report against Jaimandal Yadav, Lakhan Yadav, and Vikul Yadav. The accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for obstructing public servants in the discharge of official duties, abusing and criminally threatening government officials, along with applicable provisions of the Mines and Minerals Act.
Police officials stated that multiple teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the accused. The viral video of the incident is also being examined as part of the investigation and will serve as crucial evidence in the case.
The incident has highlighted the growing audacity of those allegedly involved in illegal mining activities, with revenue officials facing direct threats while attempting to enforce the law. The case has intensified concerns over the safety of government personnel conducting operations against illegal excavation in the region.
