Amazon Unveils India’s Largest Ultra-Fast Delivery Expansion, Plans Network Across 300 Cities and Launches Welfare Program for Delivery Workforce

Amazon has announced plans to create India’s largest ultra-fast delivery network by expanding Amazon Now to more than 300 cities. The company also launched a dedicated welfare programme for delivery associates, backed by a portion of its 300 million dollar investment, as it strengthens its position in the country’s booming quick commerce sector.

Amazon on Wednesday announced an ambitious expansion of its ultra-fast commerce service, revealing plans to build India’s largest delivery-in-minutes network by extending Amazon Now to more than 300 cities across the country. The company also launched a dedicated welfare initiative for delivery associates, underlining its focus on strengthening support systems for the workforce powering its rapidly growing operations.

Amazon said Amazon Now has emerged as the fastest-growing ecommerce business unit in the history of Amazon India, with order volumes doubling every quarter since its launch. The company plans to significantly strengthen its specialized fulfilment infrastructure to provide customers with the largest product selection through multiple delivery windows. Tens of thousands of products will be delivered within minutes or a few hours, while more than one million products will be available through same-day delivery, over four million products through next-day delivery, and millions more through unlimited free and fast Prime delivery.

The announcement was accompanied by the launch of "Sammaan", a comprehensive welfare programme designed for the tens of thousands of delivery associates supporting Amazon’s ecommerce and quick commerce operations. A portion of Amazon India’s recently announced investment of 300 million dollars towards operations and employee welfare will be allocated to expanding and strengthening the initiative.

Samir Kumar, Country Manager of Amazon India, said Amazon Now has become the fastest-growing ecommerce business unit in the company’s history in the country, with orders doubling every quarter since launch. He said customers, particularly Prime members, have shown a strong response, with shopping frequency tripling after they begin using Amazon Now. He added that Amazon has accelerated its expansion plans and intends to provide ultra-fast deliveries to customers in more than 300 cities. He said the new welfare programme reflects the company’s commitment to ensuring that delivery associates grow alongside the business through improved health and wellness support, educational assistance for their families, and safer working conditions.

Amazon Now is currently available to more than 50 million customers across over 15 metro and non-metro cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Amritsar and Kochi. As part of the expansion, Amazon plans to strengthen its network of micro fulfilment centres and urban fulfilment centres to accommodate a broader range of products. The assortment will include groceries such as fruits, vegetables and frozen food, along with personal care products, fashion and beauty items, small appliances, home products and kitchen essentials, all delivered within minutes.

The company also announced plans to expand its Ashray rest centres to 250 locations this year, with the facilities being made available to delivery associates across the industry.
