BRICS Security Chiefs Convene in New Delhi to Address Emerging Global Security Challenges
The BRICS National Security Advisers meeting in New Delhi, chaired by Ajit Doval, has brought together security chiefs from all 11 member nations to discuss non-traditional security challenges, cybersecurity, digital vulnerabilities and artificial intelligence-driven threats. The gathering also marks India’s fourth BRICS Chairship under the theme of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
The meeting is centred on the theme, “Non-traditional Security Challenges Confronting the World Today”, with discussions focusing on the rapidly evolving nature of national security threats and the growing impact of new technologies on emerging risks. Delegates are examining issues related to cybersecurity, digital vulnerabilities and threats driven by artificial intelligence.
National Security Advisers and heads of delegation are also reviewing the outcomes of recently held BRICS Joint Working Groups on Counter-Terrorism and Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies. The discussions are aimed at strengthening cooperation among member countries in addressing increasingly complex security concerns.
The gathering assumes added significance as India holds the BRICS Chairship for the fourth time in 2026, following its earlier leadership of the grouping in 2012, 2016 and 2021. India’s chairmanship is being conducted under the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s people-centric vision outlined during the 2025 Rio Summit.
Over the years, the BRICS grouping has expanded considerably beyond its original economic agenda. The bloc now operates across three major pillars comprising political and security cooperation, economic and financial partnership, and people-to-people exchanges, highlighting its growing role in shaping international dialogue and cooperation amid evolving global challenges.
The ongoing meeting in New Delhi underscores the increasing importance of coordinated responses to non-traditional threats and reinforces BRICS’ expanding influence as a platform for addressing critical security, technological and strategic issues facing the world.
