India Rejects Pakistan's Claims on Jammu and Kashmir, Accuses Islamabad of Human Rights Violations in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir
India strongly rejected remarks made by Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Jammu and Kashmir, accusing Islamabad of attempting to hide its failures and divert attention from alleged human rights abuses in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The External Affairs Ministry highlighted ongoing protests, economic exploitation, administrative oppression, and the use of force against civilians.
Responding to reports regarding Khawaja Asif's criticism of India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and his comments on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal issued a sharp rebuttal.
"We have seen some reports on the matter. Such remarks are desperate attempts by Pakistan to cover up its own failings and deflect attention away from its human rights abuses," Jaiswal said.
He said India categorically rejected what he described as fabricated allegations and treated them with the contempt they deserved.
Jaiswal further asserted that the ongoing protests in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir were the result of Pakistan's decades-long policy of systematic economic exploitation, denial of fundamental rights, and administrative oppression in territories under what India described as Pakistan's illegal and forcible occupation.
According to the External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, the Pakistani state has responded to the protests with extreme force. He alleged that authorities had blocked essential supplies and medicines, imposed internet blackouts, and used lethal force against unarmed civilians.
Jaiswal also expressed hope that the international community would hold Pakistan accountable for what he termed its misconduct and human rights abuses.
The exchange marks another escalation in tensions over Jammu and Kashmir, with India maintaining that Pakistan's statements are aimed at shifting attention away from unrest and allegations of rights violations in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
