India Arrive in Ireland for T20 Series With Unbeaten Record on Irish Soil Against Hosts
India have reached Ireland for a two-match Twenty20 International series on June 26 and 28, carrying an unbeaten record against the hosts in Ireland. Since their first visit in 2007, India have won all seven completed matches against Ireland, with only one defeat overall on Irish soil coming against South Africa during the 2007 One-Day International series.
India head into the series carrying a perfect record against Ireland on Irish soil. The team has played one One-Day International and six Twenty20 Internationals against the hosts in Ireland and has emerged victorious in every encounter. The first meeting came in 2007 when India defeated Ireland by nine wickets in Belfast. That match also marked the international debut of Rohit Sharma.
India secured a 2-0 Twenty20 International series victory in 2018 and repeated the same result during the tours of 2022 and 2023. Despite their flawless record against Ireland, the Indian team has suffered one defeat overall in Ireland.
Following the One-Day International against Ireland in 2007, India faced South Africa in a three-match One-Day International series in Belfast. South Africa won the opening match by four wickets on June 26, 2007. India bounced back strongly, winning the next two matches by six wickets each on June 29 and July 1 to clinch the series.
During that series, Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed twice in the nervous nineties but still claimed the Player of the Series award for his performances. The 2007 campaign remains the only occasion on which India have lost a match in Ireland.
India's record in Ireland began with a nine-wicket victory over Ireland in Belfast on June 23, 2007. It was followed by a four-wicket defeat to South Africa on June 26, 2007, before victories by six wickets against South Africa on June 29 and July 1, 2007.
India returned to Ireland in 2018 and defeated Ireland by 76 runs in Malahide on June 27 before registering a massive 143-run victory on June 29 to complete a 2-0 Twenty20 International series sweep.
On the 2022 tour, India defeated Ireland by seven wickets in Malahide on June 26 and edged out the hosts by four runs on June 28 to secure another 2-0 series victory.
In 2023, India continued their dominance with a two-run victory over Ireland in Malahide on August 18 and followed it with a 33-run win on August 20. The third match scheduled for August 23 was abandoned without a result.
As India prepare for another assignment in Ireland, history strongly favours the visitors. With seven wins from seven completed matches against Ireland in Ireland and only one defeat overall on Irish soil, the team will aim to extend its remarkable dominance when the latest two-match Twenty20 International series begins.
