Trump Says Released Iranian Funds Will Be Held in US-Controlled Escrow for Humanitarian Purchases
United States President Donald Trump said Iranian funds released under sanctions relief will be placed in a US-controlled escrow account and used exclusively to purchase American food and medical supplies. The announcement comes as Washington and Tehran negotiate key issues, including Iran's nuclear program and broader efforts to secure lasting peace in the Middle East.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the money released by the US Treasury would remain under Washington's control and could only be used to buy food and medical supplies from the United States. He specified that the purchases would include corn, wheat, and soybeans supplied by American farmers.
"The Money and/or Sanctions that the US Treasury is releasing goes into escrow, controlled by the USA, and will be used for the purchase of food and medical supplies, exclusively from the United States, including Corn, Wheat, and Soybeans from our great American Farmers," Trump wrote.
Describing the situation as a humanitarian crisis, Trump said immediate assistance was necessary. "This is a humanitarian crisis, and I feel it is necessary to help, NOW, before it is too late," he stated.
The announcement comes after the signing of an agreement aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East. Washington and Tehran are currently negotiating crucial aspects of the arrangement, including the future of Iran's nuclear program, in an effort to secure a lasting peace.
Under the terms being discussed, Iran is expected to receive a form of sanctions relief from the United States along with the unfreezing of assets. As negotiations continue, the US Treasury Department said on Monday that it was temporarily lifting sanctions on Iran to allow the country to produce, sell, and deliver crude oil and related products through August 21.
The decision marks a significant development in the ongoing diplomatic process between Washington and Tehran, with humanitarian assistance and the future of Iran's nuclear program emerging as central issues in efforts to establish long-term stability in the region.
