India-Origin Railway Coach in Pakistan Sparks Curiosity, Viral Video Revives Memories of Samjhauta Express

A viral video showing a Pakistani vlogger exploring an Indian Railways coach parked in Pakistan has reignited discussion over the historic Samjhauta Express. The footage has attracted widespread reactions online while recalling the decades-long rail connection between India and Pakistan and the multiple suspensions caused by security tensions and major incidents.

The sight of an Indian Railways coach inside Pakistan has surprised many observers, but the presence of such a carriage is not unprecedented. Before 2019, regular rail connectivity existed between the two countries, which was suspended by India after the abrogation of Article 370 due to security concerns. As a result, the existence of an Indian Railways coach left behind in Pakistan is not considered impossible.

A Pakistani vlogger identified as Kami appeared visibly excited after discovering an Indian Railways guard and luggage coach parked in Pakistan. In a video that has gone viral on social media, the content creator expressed immense enthusiasm while entering the carriage and exploring its interior.

As he moved through the coach with a camera, he first noticed the wheel mechanism connected to the emergency chain system. However, he appeared unaware of its purpose and simply remarked about the object before moving ahead. He then showcased the seating and sleeping spaces inside the coach before heading toward the washroom. While recording himself in the mirror, he once again expressed his excitement, repeatedly emphasizing that he was inside an Indian train located in Pakistan.

The video triggered widespread reactions from users on social media, many of whom posted sarcastic remarks. One user suggested that the vlogger should sell the train because it would make half of Pakistan wealthy. Another user claimed that the carriage had been gifted to Pakistan and advised him to enjoy it. A third comment stated that India had already retired the coach, while another user remarked that those dependent on charity do not have the privilege of making choices.

Rail connectivity between India and Pakistan was established under the Simla Agreement signed on July 2, 1972. Subsequently, the Samjhauta Express service was launched on July 22, 1976, connecting Lahore in Pakistan with Attari in India. Following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, India suspended the train service on security grounds.

The Samjhauta Express had not been halted for the first time in 2019. The service had earlier been suspended between 2002 and 2004 following the attack on the Indian Parliament in 2001. In 2007, Pakistan again halted the train after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto due to security concerns. The service was also suspended during the Pulwama terror attack and the Balakot airstrike in February 2019. The coach seen in the viral video is believed to have been part of the Samjhauta Express.
