Armed Man in Military Attire Sparks Police Probe in Kepong as Imitation Firearm Case Unfolds
Police in Gombak have launched an investigation after a viral video showed a man in military-style clothing carrying what appeared to be a rifle in Kepong. The case, reported at Desa Jaya Police Station, is being probed under Arms Act and Penal Code provisions related to imitation firearms and public safety concerns in residential areas.
According to Gombak Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ibrahim Husin, police received a report at 4:31 pm on Monday, 22 June, at the Desa Jaya Police Station following the circulation of the footage. Authorities believe the incident took place in Taman Bukit Desa, Kepong.
The video reportedly shows the man walking along a quiet residential road at night, wearing military-style attire with what appears to be a rifle slung over his shoulder. The visuals quickly spread across messaging platforms, prompting swift police attention and a formal complaint.
Police have confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 36 of the Arms Act, which pertains to the possession and importation of imitation firearms. In addition, the matter also falls under Section 140 of the Penal Code.
Officials noted that individuals convicted under Section 140 of the Penal Code may face imprisonment of up to three months, a fine of up to 1,000 Malaysian ringgit, or both. Meanwhile, offences under Section 36 of the Arms Act carry a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of up to 5,000 Malaysian ringgit, or both.
Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further legal action will depend on the outcome of the probe. The incident has raised concerns over public safety and the misuse of imitation weapons in residential areas, prompting heightened scrutiny from law enforcement agencies.
