Sunrisers Hyderabad Script Historic 100th IPL Win with Record-Breaking 244-Run Chase Against Mumbai Indians

Sunrisers Hyderabad achieve their 100th IPL win with a stunning 244-run chase against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede. Powered by Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen, the match sets records for high-scoring chases and highlights SRH’s dominance in the ongoing season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a stunning statement performance by securing their 100th Indian Premier League victory, chasing down a massive 244-run target against five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. The high-scoring encounter also marked the 10th successful chase of a 200-plus target this season, the highest in a single edition of the tournament.

The contest turned into a batting spectacle as bowlers from both sides were taken apart across all parts of the ground. Half-centuries from Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen overpowered a remarkable maiden IPL century by Ryan Rickelton, which had earlier propelled Mumbai Indians to a commanding total.

Since their debut in 2013, Sunrisers Hyderabad have now recorded 100 wins, 104 losses, and one no result in 205 matches. Across 13 seasons, the franchise has established itself as one of the most consistent teams in the league, winning the title in 2016, finishing runners-up in 2018 and 2024, and reaching the playoffs on four other occasions. With six wins from nine matches and positioned in the upper half of the points table, the team appears well on course for another playoff berth.

This season has witnessed an unprecedented surge in high-scoring chases, with 10 successful pursuits of targets exceeding 200 runs, surpassing last year’s record of nine. The highest chase of the season came when Punjab Kings chased down 265 against Delhi Capitals in Delhi, marking the largest successful run chase in T20 history.

The chase of 244 stands as Sunrisers Hyderabad’s second-highest successful pursuit, behind their 246-run chase against Punjab Kings last year, and ranks as the fourth-highest in IPL history. The magnitude of this victory is further underscored by the fact that Mumbai Indians, historically dominant while defending large totals, have now suffered only their second defeat when defending scores above 200. Prior to this, they had won 19 such matches, with their only other loss coming against Punjab Kings while defending 204 in a qualifier.

The victory also holds special significance as it marks just the third time Sunrisers Hyderabad have won at the Wankhede Stadium, with their previous wins in 2018 and 2022 both coming while defending totals.

Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians opted to bat first and made a blistering start. Will Jacks scored 46 off 22 balls, striking five boundaries and three sixes, while combining with Ryan Rickelton for a 93-run opening partnership. Rickelton anchored the innings and remained unbeaten on 123 off 55 balls, registering the fastest century for Mumbai Indians in IPL history. His innings included 10 boundaries and eight sixes, and he built crucial partnerships with Naman Dhir, who scored 22 off 17 balls, and captain Hardik Pandya, who added 31 off 15 deliveries. Mumbai Indians finished at an imposing 243 for 5.

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Praful Hinge returned figures of 2 for 54, while Eshan Malinga contributed with 1 for 29.

In response, Travis Head set the tone for the chase with a blistering 76 off just 30 balls, including four boundaries and eight sixes. He shared a 129-run partnership with Abhishek Sharma, who scored 45 off 24 balls with four boundaries and three sixes. Despite a brief setback that saw Sunrisers Hyderabad slip to 133 for 3 in 9.4 overs due to wickets from Allah Ghazanfar and Hardik Pandya, the chase remained firmly on track.

Heinrich Klaasen played a decisive role, remaining unbeaten on 65 off 30 balls, striking seven boundaries and four sixes. He stitched an 80-run partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy, who contributed 21 off 17 balls. Salil Arora then provided a late surge with an explosive unbeaten 30 off just 10 balls, ensuring the target was chased down with six wickets in hand and eight balls to spare.

With this emphatic victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their sixth win in nine matches and strengthened their position in the points table. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, slipped to the lower ranks and now face a must-win situation in their remaining fixtures to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The scale and impact of this win underline a defining moment in the season, as Sunrisers Hyderabad not only etched a historic milestone but also reinforced their credentials as one of the most formidable chasing sides in the league.
