Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 594-kilometer-long Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, a major infrastructure project connecting Meerut to Prayagraj across 12 districts. The expressway has been constructed as a six-lane highway, with provisions for future expansion up to eight lanes, at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore, completed in under 3.5 years, primarily by Adani Enterprises.
The project features a strategically significant Indian Air Force airstrip, designed to enhance national security and emergency operational readiness. It has been developed with a flood-resistant elevated structure to ensure uninterrupted connectivity during adverse weather conditions. Environmental considerations have also been incorporated, including the plantation of 13.5 lakh saplings along the corridor.
In addition, toll-free service roads have been developed to benefit 519 villages situated along the route, significantly improving rural accessibility and mobility. The expressway is expected to act as a critical economic artery for the region.
Prime Minister Modi described the Ganga Expressway as a gateway to new opportunities, emphasizing its role in strengthening agricultural output in the Doab region. He highlighted its potential to generate up to 3 lakh employment opportunities through the development of industrial nodes along the corridor. The project is also expected to reduce logistics costs, boost temple-based tourism, and enhance market access for local products.
The inauguration of the expressway marks a significant step in large-scale infrastructure development aimed at accelerating regional growth, improving connectivity, and fostering economic transformation across Uttar Pradesh.
