Indian Weightlifters Dominate Commonwealth Youth and Junior Championships with Four Gold Medals in Apia
Indian weightlifters secured four gold medals at the Commonwealth Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Apia, Samoa. Sunil Singh, Aisangfa Gogoi, Abhinob Gogoi, and Charu Pesi delivered outstanding performances across multiple categories. The Indian Weightlifting Federation praised the athletes, coaches, and support staff for their dedication and success on the international stage.
Sunil Singh emerged victorious in the men’s 65 kilogram category, registering a total lift of 271 kilograms to claim the gold medal. In the women’s 58 kilogram division, Aisangfa Gogoi secured the top podium finish with a combined lift of 185 kilograms, adding another gold to India’s tally. Abhinob Gogoi continued the winning momentum in the men’s 71 kilogram category, lifting a total of 284 kilograms to secure gold.
In the Universal Cup event, Charu Pesi of Arunachal Pradesh delivered a standout performance in the men’s 65 kilogram category, clinching gold with an impressive total lift of 289 kilograms.
Reacting to the strong performance, Indian Weightlifting Federation President Sahdev Yadav congratulated the athletes, coaches, and support staff. He stated that the results reflect the hard work and dedication of the entire team and reaffirm India’s growing strength in global weightlifting competitions.
The achievements mark a significant milestone for Indian weightlifting at the championship, highlighting consistent progress across youth and junior categories on the international stage.
