Prime Minister Narendra Modi Marks Second Day of Sikkim Visit, Launches Projects Worth Over ₹4,000 Crore at Statehood Golden Jubilee Event
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the second day of his Sikkim visit, attended the 50th statehood anniversary closing ceremony and launched development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore, praising the state’s unity, culture, and contribution to national integration.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister described his arrival in Sikkim as an uplifting experience, highlighting the unique atmosphere marked by rainfall the previous night, a cool morning, and bright sunshine. He praised the state’s distinctive character, referring to it as the “garden of orchids” and emphasizing its unmatched natural beauty, tranquility, and spiritual richness, which he said can only be experienced through fortune.
During his speech, the Prime Minister drew attention to ongoing attempts in parts of the country to create divisions based on language, regionalism, and social hierarchies for political gain. In contrast, he stated that Sikkim has demonstrated the true spirit of national unity, embodying the vision of a united and
India through its inclusive culture and harmony.
He remarked that the event symbolically brought the entire nation together in one place, expressing that the people of Sikkim had won not only his admiration but also the hearts of citizens across India. He underlined that such expressions of patriotism play a vital role in inspiring the younger generation.
The Prime Minister also shared that interactions with the people of Sikkim always bring him a sense of peace, praising their humility, simplicity, and warmth. He noted that prior to the visit, he had engaged with several talented individuals from the state, including distinguished intellectuals, award recipients, artists, and football players, discussing a range of subjects.
Recalling the roadshow held the previous evening, he described it as an unforgettable experience marked by citizens holding the national flag and chanting patriotic slogans. The event, he said, created an atmosphere that vividly reflected the idea of national unity and pride.
The ceremony not only marked a milestone in Sikkim’s political journey but also underscored the government’s focus on regional development and national integration, positioning the state as a symbol of unity amid diversity.
