Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor: CM Yogi Adityanath Hails Infrastructure Milestone as Catalyst for Regional Prosperity
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hails the inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor as a major milestone for regional growth. Highlighting a 50% reduction in travel time, the CM emphasized benefits for woodwork, agriculture, and trade in Saharanpur, Shamli, and Meerut, while paying tribute to B.R. Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary and the impact of double-engine governance.
Chief Minister Adityanath characterized the Delhi-Baghpat-Saharanpur-Dehradun Economic Corridor as a major gift for the region, asserting that it will accelerate economic development and improve connectivity while reducing travel time between Saharanpur and Delhi from the previous five to six hours to approximately two-and-a-half to three hours. Beyond the immediate benefit to commuters, the Chief Minister emphasized that the corridor will enhance access to Dehradun, providing a critical advantage to trade, agriculture, and local industries. Highlighting the specific economic impact, Adityanath noted that products from Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, and Meerut—including woodwork, handicrafts, agricultural produce, fruits, and vegetables—will now benefit from faster access to the national capital and global markets, serving as a medium for farmers and entrepreneurs to secure better prices and expand their reach.
The occasion also coincided with the 135th birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar, to whom the Chief Minister paid deep tributes, noting that the architect of the Constitution laid the foundation for equality and social justice by ensuring equal rights for every citizen irrespective of caste, region, gender, or background. Adityanath highlighted government initiatives to honor social reformers, stating that infrastructure is being developed at sites associated with leaders like Ambedkar, Sant Ravidas, and Maharishi Valmiki. He pledged that the government would provide funds to complete boundary walls or proper shelters for the statues of such great personalities to ensure due respect. Emphasizing infrastructure-led growth, the Chief Minister argued that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a hub of security, good governance, infrastructure, employment, and investment under the "double-engine" government, citing the seamless connection between Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi as evidence of its strength.
Detailing ongoing regional development, Adityanath pointed to a new university in Saharanpur, a civil terminal at Sarsawa airport, and the upcoming film city and international airport in Jewar as key projects that will create employment opportunities for the youth. He maintained that the government is simultaneously preserving heritage and accelerating development through committed leadership. Taking an apparent swipe at opposition parties, the Chief Minister alleged that those who promote division based on caste or family, or those who previously pushed the state into riots and sheltered mafias, are incapable of delivering development or jobs. Recalling past difficulties in travelling between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, particularly during the monsoon, Adityanath concluded that the new corridor resolves longstanding connectivity issues, reflecting a model of development, governance, and service under Prime Minister Modi’s vision that ensures a smoother experience for all citizens.
