Miraroad Stabbing Horror Sparks Security Alert; Accused Arrested Within 90 Minutes Amid Terror Link Speculation
A stabbing incident in Mira Road, Mumbai suburbs, left one security guard critically injured and another hurt after an attack by accused Zaib Zubair Ansari. Arrested within 90 minutes, the case is under ATS scrutiny amid alleged religious provocation claims, terror link speculation, and ongoing forensic investigation.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 AM on April 27, 2026, within the jurisdiction of the Naya Nagar Police Station, at the Asmita Grand Mansion construction site located behind Wockhardt Hospital. Security guards Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Ramesh Sen were on duty when a man identified as 31-year-old Zaib Zubair Ansari arrived at the location.
According to police, the accused engaged the guards in conversation before suddenly producing a knife and launching a violent attack. Rajkumar Mishra sustained critical injuries, while Subroto Ramesh Sen suffered minor injuries. Both victims were immediately attended to and shifted for medical treatment.
Preliminary allegations suggest that the attacker questioned one of the guards about his name and religious identity before the assault and allegedly asked him to recite the Islamic declaration of faith. However, law enforcement authorities have clarified that these claims are currently under investigation and no official confirmation of a communal motive has been established.
The investigation has drawn in the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad, which is examining whether the incident is linked to any larger organized network or extremist conspiracy. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam claimed that initial questioning indicated possible extremist connections, asserting that the accused may have links to terrorist organizations. He also stated that the matter must be thoroughly investigated to rule out any broader threat. However, police have not confirmed these claims.
Authorities have registered charges under Section 196(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, related to promoting enmity between different communities, indicating that the communal angle is among several lines of inquiry. Officials, however, stressed that it is too early to draw conclusions.
Police further stated that the accused had been residing in the Mira Road area for the past few years, and his educational and personal background is currently under detailed scrutiny. A forensic team also conducted a search of his residence to collect evidence relevant to the investigation.
Law enforcement agencies have urged the public not to spread rumors and to maintain peace while the investigation continues. Officials reiterated that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined to establish the full truth behind the attack.
The incident has heightened security concerns in the region, particularly given the early morning timing, the targeted nature of the assault, and emerging claims that investigators are carefully verifying.
