Naidu Lays Foundation for Google’s $15 Billion, 1 GW AI Hub in Visakhapatnam
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launches Google’s $15 billion, 1 GW AI hub in Visakhapatnam with Adani Connex. The clean energy-powered project aims to boost startups, create jobs, and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s data center capacity, targeting 6 GW by 2030 alongside major investments from Reliance Industries.
The project, being developed in partnership with Adani Connex, will be powered entirely by clean energy and is expected to accelerate the growth of startups, generate thousands of employment opportunities, and contribute to India’s long-term development vision for 2047. The foundation ceremony witnessed the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Google Cloud Chief Executive Officer Thomas Kurian, who participated across multiple project locations including Taruluvada, Rambilli, and Adavivaram.
This development significantly strengthens Andhra Pradesh’s position as a major data center hub in the country. With this project, the state’s total data center commitments have now reached 5.6 gigawatts. In a parallel development, Reliance Industries has announced plans to establish a nearby 1.5 gigawatt data center cluster in Bhogapuram, further boosting the region’s technological ecosystem.
The state government has been actively promoting investments in digital infrastructure through targeted incentives, aiming to achieve a total capacity of 6 gigawatts by 2030. The Google Cloud project represents a major milestone in this strategy, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s emergence as a key player in India’s data-driven economy and clean energy-powered technology expansion.
The foundation of this large-scale artificial intelligence hub underscores a transformative moment for Visakhapatnam, positioning it at the forefront of global data infrastructure while aligning with national ambitions for sustainable growth and technological leadership.
