During his two-day visit to Sikkim to mark the state’s 50th Statehood anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in an impromptu football session with schoolchildren and young athletes, adding a personal and energetic dimension to the official celebrations.
The unexpected interaction took place near Raj Bhavan, where the Prime Minister joined the youth on the field, high-fiving players and posing for group photographs. The brief yet spirited exchange drew attention as a reflection of his continued emphasis on fitness and youth engagement, aligning with national initiatives such as Khelo India.
Following the informal interaction, Modi proceeded with his official schedule, inaugurating development projects worth over Rs 4,000 crore. These included key infrastructure and public welfare initiatives such as hospitals, schools, bridges, and tourism facilities aimed at strengthening the state’s growth trajectory.
Addressing a gathering at Paljor Stadium, the Prime Minister praised Sikkim for its unity, environmental consciousness, and commitment to cleanliness. He highlighted the state's progress since its integration into India in 1975 as the country’s 22nd state, underscoring its role as a model for sustainable development.
