Prime Minister Narendra Modi became India’s longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister after completing 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru’s record. Special prayers were offered at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, while leaders across the country celebrated the historic milestone and highlighted the government’s development agenda and vision for a developed India by 2047.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday achieved a historic milestone by becoming India’s longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office and surpassing the record previously held by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The occasion was marked by celebrations and special prayer ceremonies across several parts of the country. In Puri, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament Sambit Patra visited the revered Jagannath Temple and participated in religious rituals dedicated to the Prime Minister’s health, long life, and the prosperity of the nation.

Speaking to reporters after the ceremonies, Patra described the achievement as a landmark moment in the history of Indian democracy. He said Prime Minister Modi had become the longest-serving elected leader in independent India, surpassing Nehru’s long-standing record. Patra noted that Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal led the prayers on the occasion.

According to Patra, the rituals were conducted not only for the Prime Minister’s well-being but also for the welfare of the country and the aspirations of a developed India. He stated that from early morning, prayers at the Jagannath Temple had been dedicated to Modi’s health and longevity, as well as to the prosperity of 1.4 billion Indians and the vision of transforming India into a developed nation under his leadership.

The milestone triggered celebrations among Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and workers across the country, with commemorative events and prayer gatherings organized to honor the occasion.

Earlier in the day, Union Minister Giriraj Singh praised the Prime Minister’s political journey, emphasizing that Modi had reached the nation’s highest elected office through the mandate of the people rather than privilege. Singh credited the Prime Minister with implementing welfare initiatives for economically weaker sections, strengthening the national economy, and enhancing India’s standing on the global stage.

Bihar Minister Ramkripal Yadav also extended congratulations to the Prime Minister. He said that under the guiding principle of inclusive development and public trust, the country had achieved significant progress and reached new milestones over the past twelve years.

The historic achievement coincided with a major National Democratic Alliance conclave at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to chair a meeting of Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and senior leaders from National Democratic Alliance-governed states and Union Territories. The meeting is expected to review governance initiatives and deliberate on the roadmap for achieving the national objective of becoming a developed country by 2047.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi surpassed a record that had stood for decades, the milestone was celebrated by party leaders and supporters as a defining moment in India’s democratic journey. The event also underscored the government’s continued focus on governance, development, and its long-term vision for the nation’s future
