Gold Prices Fall by ₹1,300 on October 23; Silver Drops Over 3% on MCX
Gold prices fell by ₹1,300 per 10 grams on October 23, while silver dropped over 3% on MCX. Check the latest 22-carat and 24-carat gold rates, key market factors and what buyers should consider before investing.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold was trading around ₹1.42 lakh per 10 grams, down approximately 0.92%. Silver prices also witnessed a significant fall, with the MCX price declining by more than 3%. The latest correction has drawn attention to 22-carat and 24-carat gold rates and whether the current price levels offer a suitable opportunity for jewellery purchases or investment.
The average price of 24-carat gold in India fell by ₹1,300 to ₹1,42,330 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, 22-carat gold was priced at ₹1,30,469 per 10 grams. On the MCX, gold declined by ₹1,315 to trade at ₹1,41,994.
Internationally, gold prices also weakened. On the US-based Comex market, gold fell by .40 to trade at ,020 per ounce. Silver experienced a sharper correction than gold, with its price on the MCX dropping by 3.03%.
Gold and silver prices are influenced by several factors, including the strength of the US dollar, bond yields, expectations surrounding interest rates and international tensions. Gold is widely regarded as a safe-haven investment, while silver also has substantial industrial applications. Concerns over industrial demand have contributed to the sharper decline in silver prices compared with gold.
For consumers planning to purchase jewellery for festivals or weddings, the fall in prices could provide some relief. However, buyers should check making charges and Goods and Services Tax (GST) alongside the prevailing 22-carat gold rate before making a purchase.
The decline in prices on a single day should not be the sole basis for an investment decision. Those considering long-term investments through Gold Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), Sovereign Gold Bonds or digital gold should monitor movements in the dollar-rupee exchange rate and signals from global markets. Buying in instalments, similar to a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP), is considered a preferable approach for spreading purchases over time.
With gold and silver prices under pressure in both domestic and international markets, buyers have an opportunity to reassess their purchasing plans while keeping additional jewellery costs and broader market movements in mind.
