Broken Railway Track Discovered After Tejas Rajdhani Passes, Trains Halted in Ghazipur
A potentially serious railway accident was narrowly avoided in Ghazipur after the Agartala-Anand Vihar Tejas Rajdhani Express crossed a broken track. The locomotive pilot's alert triggered emergency repairs and halted several trains.
According to information received from the Railways, the railway track was broken near pole/kilometre number 719 at around 4 am on Wednesday. Train number 20501, the Agartala-Anand Vihar Tejas Rajdhani Express, passed over the damaged section at high speed.
Immediately after the locomotive pilot reported the incident, the Danapur Railway Division control room was alerted. Upon receiving the information, engineering staff and officials from the Permanent Way Inspector (PWI) department rushed to the spot with tools and equipment. The team took prompt action and installed a welding clamp on the broken track. By around 6 am, the track had been prepared for train operations.
After the repair work was completed, train services on the Delhi-Howrah route resumed. However, prioritising safety, railway authorities imposed a caution speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour for all trains passing through the affected section. The engineering team remained stationed at the site to verify the strength of the track.
Following the emergency alert about the broken railway track, several trains approaching the section had to be halted at different stations. The Bombay Janata Express travelling from Rajgir to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus was stopped at Zamania, while the Sikkim Mahananda Express was halted at Dildarnagar. The LTT Mumbai Fair Special and the Buxar-DDU MEMU were stopped at Bhadaura station. The Ahmedabad Express was held at Darauli station.
Zamania station master Aditya Kumar said immediate measures were taken after the locomotive pilot reported the suspected track damage, enabling rail traffic to be restored promptly.
Although the damaged track was repaired and train operations resumed, the incident highlighted the importance of timely reporting by locomotive pilots and rapid intervention by railway engineering teams in preventing accidents and maintaining safety on one of the country's major rail routes.
