Taco Bell and Duolingo Take Global Taco Day Worldwide with Mumbai Celebration
Taco Bell and Duolingo are taking Global Taco Day worldwide on October 6, 2026, with a limited-edition Duo Habanero Sauce, exclusive giveaways and an interactive celebration featuring Duo the Owl at Mumbai’s Phoenix Marketcity.
Whether in Spanish, French or German, the word is “taco”. In Japanese, it is “Takosu”, while in Hindi, it is “Taiko”. Taco Bell and Duolingo are using this shared connection to encourage taco fans worldwide, including in India, to celebrate their love of tacos.
The Global Taco Day celebration will feature the launch of the limited-edition Duo Habanero Sauce, language-themed activities and surprises inspired by Duolingo’s iconic mascot, Duo the Owl. The campaign includes activations across international markets and an in-store celebration in Mumbai.
“Together with Duolingo, we’re bringing two passionate fan communities together around something everyone already understands: a love of tacos,” said Andrea Beer, Chief Marketing Officer, Taco Bell APAC. “In India, we’re bringing that idea to life with Duo the Owl in Mumbai, an all-new Duo Habanero Sauce for fans across the country and giveaways we know both fan communities are going to love. We can’t wait to see fans join the celebration and go all out in the name of taco.”
Duo Habanero Sauce Debuts in Limited-Edition Collaboration
At the centre of the partnership is Duo Habanero Sauce, a new, limited-time offering created exclusively for the Taco Bell and Duolingo collaboration. Described as bright and tangy, with fruity notes and habanero heat, the sauce combines flavour and spice that builds with every bite. Its bold profile reflects the character of Duo, making it a distinctive addition to the celebration.
The limited-edition sauce also brings language learning into the dining experience. In India, the sauce ramekins will feature taco-inspired messages in Hindi, English, Korean and Spanish, among the top languages people in India are learning on Duolingo. Each message reinforces the campaign’s central idea that, despite differences in language, a shared love of tacos can connect people across cultures.
“Language and food are two of the most powerful ways we connect with culture and with each other,” said Emmanuel Orssaud, Chief Marketing Officer, Duolingo. “Taco is a rare word that travels easily across cultures, making it a fun starting point for getting people curious about language.”
Across participating international markets, Taco Bell and Duolingo are marking Global Taco Day with limited-edition surprises, local offers and appearances by Duo the Owl.
Duo the Owl Arrives at Taco Bell’s Phoenix Marketcity Outlet in Mumbai
On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the brands will bring the collaboration to life through an in-store activation at Taco Bell, Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla, Mumbai. The event will run from 12 noon to 7 PM.
Duo will appear in a custom Taco Bell uniform produced by Duolingo India, joining fans for a series of consumer activities. These will include a Spin the Wheel experience offering opportunities to win exclusive Taco Bell deals or a Duolingo Super code worth Rs. 1,000. A dedicated photo booth will also allow visitors to take pictures with the iconic Duolingo Owl.
Visitors will be able to experience the new Duo Habanero Sauce while participating in activities inspired by the collaboration. The event forms part of a wider series of Global Taco Day activations, with Duo scheduled to appear in Mumbai, Toronto, New York City and Shanghai as the brands bring the international celebration to local audiences.
Taco Bell’s Campaign to Expand National Taco Day
The global collaboration follows Taco Bell’s efforts over several years to expand celebrations dedicated to tacos. In 2023, the brand helped liberate “Taco Tuesday” in the United States, opening the phrase for use by restaurants nationwide.
In 2024, Taco Bell worked with National Day Calendar to change the timing of National Taco Day, moving it to the first Tuesday in October. The brand marked the first anniversary of the newly established National Taco Day in 2025 with special deals for fans.
With the trademark cancelled and the calendar changed, Taco Bell is now taking the celebration global in partnership with Duolingo. The initiative represents the next step in the brand’s years-long effort to make the occasion more inclusive for taco fans worldwide.
“We've always believed tacos are for everyone,” said Amy Ellis Durini, Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, Taco Bell International. “There’s something pretty special about a word that can be understood across languages and cultures. Together with Duolingo, we’re celebrating a love of tacos that brings people together everywhere – and the idea that sometimes the things that connect us need very little translation at all.”
