DAC Developers MD Sathish Kumar Santhanam Highlights Tamil Heritage at Global Sustainability Summit
DAC Developers MD Dr. Sathish Kumar Santhanam received the Global Change Maker Award 2026 at the UN Asia-Pacific Headquarters and shared how Tamil heritage, sustainable design and resilient communities can shape future well-being.
Speaking on the theme “From Our Roots to Our Future: Building for Generations,” Dr. Sathish Kumar Santhanam connected the region’s architectural and engineering legacy with the need to create sustainable communities that support long-term human well-being. He also received the “Global Change Maker Award 2026,” presented by UNESCO at the UN Asia-Pacific Headquarters.
His address drew attention to historic Tamil landmarks that demonstrate the value of planning, engineering and design intended to serve generations. He cited Kallanai as a lasting example of foresight, engineering excellence and public purpose, highlighting its relevance to the principles of building for the long term.
He also referred to the Brihadisvara Temple as an example of precision that endures, pointing to its significance as a testament to scientific knowledge, architectural intelligence and timeless design.
Dr. Sathish Kumar Santhanam further invoked the timeless Tamil expression “Yaadhum Oore; Yaavarum Kelir,” written by Kaniyan Pungundranar. Recalling former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s use of the same words in his address to the European Parliament, he echoed the expression during his own address. The phrase means, “Every place is our home. Everyone is our kin,” conveying a message of shared humanity and belonging.
Moving from heritage to the future, he outlined a vision for future-ready communities built around water security, clean energy, food resilience, technology, nature, affordability and human connection. His address underscored the role of the built environment in creating living spaces that respond to essential needs while strengthening community resilience.
“The next leap in human longevity will not come from medicine alone. It will come from the built world we choose to create today,” he said, emphasising the connection between the places people inhabit and their long-term health and well-being.
As Founder and Managing Director of DAC Developers, Dr. Sathish Kumar Santhanam presented a broader vision of developing resilient and inclusive communities that strengthen society and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s future. The message, “Rooted in heritage. Built for generations,” captured the central theme of his address, linking traditional knowledge with the responsibility to create sustainable places for future generations.
