Bisleri Wins Mahatma Award 2026 for CSR Excellence Under Greener Promise
Bisleri International wins the Mahatma Award 2026 for CSR Excellence for the second time, recognising its Greener Promise initiatives in water conservation, plastic waste management, community engagement and sustainable business practices.
This year, the Mahatma Award received more than 1,900 entries, with only 70 winners recognised across diverse categories.
The award ceremony was attended by Dr Santrupt Mishra, Rajya Sabha MP, and Dr Kiran Bedi, the country's first woman IPS officer, who served as the Chief Guest. Ms Sukanya Bharat Ram, Mahatma Gandhi Ji's great-granddaughter, attended as a Guest of Honour.
Inspired by the life and principles of Mahatma Gandhi, the Mahatma Award recognises individuals and organisations that drive positive change, work towards making the world a better place and demonstrate Gandhian ideals through transformative initiatives. The award was instituted by Gandhian and lawyer Mr Amit Sachdeva, known as the CSR Man of India, and is supported by Ms Rajashree Birla, Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Centre for Rural Development and Communication Initiatives.
Commenting on the achievement, Dr Angelo George, CEO of Bisleri International, said, “Receiving the Mahatma Award for the second time is especially meaningful, as it reflects the consistency and commitment of Bisleri’s sustainability efforts. Our Greener Promise is shaped by the choices our teams make, the partnerships we build, and the communities we work with. This recognition is a testament to the collective efforts of our employees, partners and people on the ground who continue to translate our sustainability ambitions into meaningful, measurable action. As we grow, our focus remains on building a responsible business that contributes meaningfully to India’s sustainable progress.”
As part of the event, Mr K Ganesh, Director – Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at Bisleri International, participated in a panel discussion titled “Corporate Environmental Responsibility: How businesses can adopt and champion eco-friendly practices.” He shared insights into the company's approach to integrating sustainability across its business operations.
The event also marked the launch of the CSR Good Book, a compendium featuring sustainable and socially responsible brands, corporations, public sector enterprises and foundations. The publication highlighted Bisleri's sustainability journey, including its extensive work on advancing circular economy models, water stewardship and a water credits framework designed to encourage water conservation across industries and sectors.
For Bisleri, receiving the Mahatma Award for the second time reflects its efforts to integrate Greener Promise into business growth, its value chain and stakeholder engagement. By connecting environmental responsibility with people's participation, community livelihoods and scalable systems, the company continues to pursue long-term change for individuals and communities while contributing to a greener planet.
