Fortis Hiranandani Hospital Trains 25,000 Navi Mumbai Residents in CPR Initiative

Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, has reached approximately 25,000 people through its Har Ghar Hero CPR initiative across Navi Mumbai, with community training and Sunday sessions planned throughout October 2026.

Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, has expanded its ‘Har Ghar Hero’ initiative across Navi Mumbai, reaching approximately 25,000 people with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) awareness and basic life-saving training aimed at improving community preparedness during cardiac emergencies.

A part of the Fortis network, which belongs to the multinational IHH Healthcare group, the hospital extended its community outreach beyond its premises to residential societies, schools, colleges, corporate organisations and Ganpati pandals across the city. The initiative aims to equip ordinary citizens with the knowledge to recognise a cardiac arrest, respond during the critical initial moments and perform basic CPR, which can make a difference between life and death.

Organised around the Ganpati festival, when lakhs of people gathered at community spaces across Navi Mumbai, the programme used these gatherings to promote emergency preparedness and highlight the importance of timely CPR intervention. Through its outreach activities, the hospital directly engaged approximately 25,000 residents, students, employees and other community members.

With a population of over 15 lakh residents, Navi Mumbai is among the fastest-growing urban centres in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, highlighting the need for stronger community-level emergency preparedness. Most cardiac arrests occur outside hospitals, often at home, where the first few minutes can significantly influence outcomes before professional medical assistance arrives.

Against this backdrop, the initiative sought to address the low rate of bystander CPR in India, estimated at approximately 1.3–9.8 per cent. By taking practical CPR awareness into the places where people live, study and work, ‘Har Ghar Hero’ aimed to improve familiarity with basic emergency response and strengthen citizens’ confidence in acting during critical medical situations.

The training sessions across Navi Mumbai focused on recognising the signs of a cardiac emergency, understanding the importance of seeking medical assistance immediately and learning the basic steps of CPR. Through practical demonstrations and interactions, participants gained basic life-saving knowledge to help them respond appropriately during the crucial first few minutes of a cardiac emergency until professional medical assistance arrived.

As part of the Ganpati festival outreach, the hospital conducted activities at several prominent community locations, including Vashi Cha Ganjraj and Navi Mumbai Cha Raja in Vashi, Sector 17; Juinagar Cha Raja; Friends Group Seva Sanstha and nearby pandals; Shri Ganesh Mitra Mandal in Koparkhairane, Sector 10; Sarvajanik Utkarsh Mitra Mandal in Koparkhairane, Sector 9; Ichapurti Ganesh Mandal in Sanpada; and Sonar Cha Raja, among others.

The residential outreach covered Moraj Residency on Palm Beach Road, Sanpada; FAM CHS, Kalash Udyan CHS and Balaji Garden CHS in Koparkhairane; and Himachal CHS in Vashi. Educational institutions also formed a key part of the programme, with CPR awareness sessions organised for students and staff at Navi Mumbai Vidyalaya (English Medium), SIES College, Tilak College and Anjuman-I-Islam College.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Ashutosh Pandey, Facility Director, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, said, “A cardiac emergency can occur anywhere. Studies show that immediate CPR can improve a person’s chances of survival two to three times. Through ‘Har Ghar Hero’, we were able to take CPR awareness directly into communities and help address the hesitation and uncertainty that often accompany a medical emergency. Ganpati celebrations gave us an effective platform to engage with people where they naturally came together and reinforce the importance of timely action. The response to the initiative has strengthened our larger objective of building a community where more citizens have the knowledge and confidence to take the right first steps when every minute matters.”

To continue the programme beyond the 10-day Ganpati festival, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, will conduct focused CPR training sessions at the hospital every Sunday from 4 pm to 5 pm throughout October 2026. Participants who complete the training will receive CPR certification. Registration is available by contacting +91 86579 58482.

Through ‘Har Ghar CPR Hero’, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, aims to progressively increase the number of CPR-aware citizens in Navi Mumbai and establish emergency preparedness as a shared community responsibility rather than one resting solely with healthcare providers.
