The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS covers a 100-400mm focal range with a constant F4.5 aperture. According to Sony India, the lens delivers high resolution and bokeh associated with the G Master series, while its advanced autofocus technology provides speeds of up to approximately three times faster than previous-generation models.
Weighing approximately 1,840g, or 65 oz., the lens features an innovative internal zoom structure that maintains a stable centre of gravity throughout the zoom range. This is designed to support smooth handheld operation and improve shooting comfort for professionals working in the field.

The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS is designed to maintain image quality across the entire 100-400mm zoom range, including when shooting wide open at F4.5. Its optical construction includes a newly developed ED XA (Extra-low Dispersion extreme aspherical) element, along with XA (extreme aspherical), two Super ED (extra-low Dispersion) and three ED glass elements. Sony said these elements help suppress chromatic and spherical aberrations while delivering high resolution and sharpness from the centre to the edges of the frame throughout the zoom range.
The lens also features Sony’s Nano AR Coating II to minimize ghosting and flare and enable high-contrast images in challenging surroundings. An 11-blade circular aperture with precision spherical aberration control is designed to produce the smooth and natural background blur associated with the G Master series.
Its constant F4.5 maximum aperture provides stable exposure while zooming, making the lens suitable for still photography and videography. The lens also supports optional tele converters, extending focal length capabilities up to 800mm, or up to 1,200mm when used in APS-C mode.
For autofocus, the new lens uses four custom-optimized XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism and Sony’s latest autofocus algorithms. Together, these features deliver autofocus speeds of up to three times faster, along with approximately 50% improved subject tracking performance compared with the previous-generation model.
The lens is also fully compatible with the Alpha 9 III’s high-speed continuous shooting capabilities of up to 120 fps with AF/AE tracking, helping creators capture fast-moving subjects with greater accuracy and consistency.
Sony said the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS combines advanced optical design, precision mechanical engineering, lightweight yet durable magnesium alloy barrel components and high-efficiency XD Linear Motors in a compact and strong build weighing approximately 1,840g.
The inner-zoom design keeps the lens length constant and maintains a stable centre of gravity throughout the zoom range. This allows photographers to make precise framing adjustments while maintaining balance and handling.
Designed for professional photography and videography, the lens includes a built-in image stabilization feature that supports Active Mode and works with compatible camera bodies to provide stable handheld shooting performance. It also supports the camera body’s breathing compensation feature, which helps minimize angle-of-view shifts during focus transitions while recording video.
For handling flexibility, the lens features four customizable focus hold buttons and a dedicated function ring, allowing users to personalize controls according to their shooting preferences.
The lens has a dust- and moisture-resistant design and a fluorine coating on the front element. The coating helps protect the lens in demanding outdoor conditions while making its surface easier to clean.
Sony has also incorporated recycled materials into multiple components of the lens as part of its Road to Zero initiative. More than 22% of the product’s total plastic weight is made using recycled plastic, including over 11% in the lens barrel, more than 41% in the lens hood and over 78% in the lens caps.
Sony is also transitioning towards recyclable non-plastic packaging materials, with plant-based non-woven fabrics being used for the product bags as part of its broader sustainability efforts.
The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS lens will be available across all Sony Center and Alpha Flagship stores, Sony authorized dealers, major electronic stores across India and e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart from 22nd May 2026 onwards.
The model carries an MRP of Rs 4,66,990 and is listed as available now.
