Diwali Return Travel: Lucknow-Delhi, Mumbai Trains Offer Relief as Demand Surges
Diwali travel bookings have intensified as passengers return home. Lucknow-Delhi and Mumbai routes offer seats after the festival, while trains to Lucknow before Diwali face waiting lists above 260.
On the Lucknow-New Delhi route, more than 1,100 seats are available on the Vande Bharat train. In the Chair Car class, 1,148 seats are available on November 9, 1,009 on November 10 and 1,108 on November 12.
The Tejas Express is also showing availability on these dates. Its Chair Car class has 457, 242 and 235 seats available on November 9, 10 and 12, respectively. In the Executive Class, 79 seats are available on November 9, 49 on November 10 and 61 on November 12. Seats are also available on the Shatabdi and Humsafar Express.
The Mumbai route is also offering some availability for passengers travelling from Lucknow after Diwali. The Pushpak Express from Gomtinagar to Mumbai has 28 and 53 sleeper-class seats available on November 9 and 10, respectively. In Third AC, eight seats are available on November 9 and 14 on November 10.
The Gorakhpur-Panvel Express has availability of up to 191 seats in Third AC. However, passengers travelling on trains such as Kushinagar, Awadh and Sitapur-LTT Express are facing minor waiting lists. Before the festival, waiting lists on several trains travelling from Mumbai to Lucknow have crossed 150.
The sharp difference in availability between outbound and inbound journeys is becoming evident ahead of Diwali. Passengers travelling from Delhi and Mumbai to Lucknow before the festival are facing increased demand, with waiting lists on several Delhi-Lucknow trains crossing 260 on November 7.
Several trains from Mumbai to Lucknow are also reporting waiting lists of more than 150. As a result, passengers planning to return home before Diwali are facing a challenge in securing confirmed train tickets, while those travelling back from Lucknow to Delhi and Mumbai after the festival currently have more availability.
