US Approves Visas for Iran President, Foreign Minister Amid Ongoing War

The US has approved visas for Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to attend the UN General Assembly as Trump claims Tehran wants an agreement amid the ongoing war.

The United States has approved visas for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials to attend the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York, even as the war between Washington and Tehran continues and efforts to reach an agreement remain unresolved.

The decision comes after US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran had contacted the United States seeking an agreement. Trump has also said that, given the current circumstances, the war may be moving towards its end. Against this backdrop, the approval of visas for Iran’s top leadership has drawn attention as Pezeshkian and Araghchi prepare to travel to the United States for the UN General Assembly.

The US State Department said on Thursday that visas had been approved for Iran’s core delegation and the essential staff required for the UN meetings. According to US officials, the main delegation includes Pezeshkian and Araghchi.

The decision comes after more than six months of conflict between Iran and the United States. However, there are still no clear signs of an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or resume negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
