The third quarterfinal of the Asian Games 2026 cricket competition was played between the Malaysia women’s cricket team and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first.
Sri Lanka made a strong recovery after a disappointing start and posted 160 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Imesha Dulani managed only two runs, but captain Chamari Athapaththu then produced an outstanding innings, scoring 63 runs from 37 balls with seven fours and three sixes.
Hasini Perera also made an important contribution with 23 runs. Kavisha Dilhari followed with an unbeaten 44 off 27 balls, while Harshitha Samarawickrama supported her with a brief but significant innings of 25 runs from 18 balls. These contributions helped Sri Lanka reach 160 for four in their allotted 20 overs.
For Malaysia, Nurrin Imanina was the standout bowler, taking three wickets.
Chasing a target of 161 runs, Malaysia made a poor start and lost three wickets for just 25 runs. Winifred Duraisingam, who came in to bat at number three, top-scored for Malaysia with 28 runs. Mahira Izzati Ismail added 24 runs, helping the team complete its 20 overs.
However, Malaysia could manage only 74 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs and lost the quarterfinal by 86 runs. The result confirmed Sri Lanka’s place in the semifinal, where they will face Pakistan.
The semifinal will be played on September 20, with Sri Lanka aiming to secure a victory and move closer to a medal in the competition.
