Fadnavis said Maharashtra has secured seven international universities, with the UWA Mumbai campus recently inaugurated. He also noted that UWA has established a “Chief Minister Scholarship” offering full scholarships to three Indian students.
“Indian students going abroad for education will now get the opportunity to study in international standard universities in India. Maharashtra has so far got seven international universities. Out of these, the Mumbai campus of the University of Western Australia was inaugurated recently,” the Chief Minister said.
He said allowing students to study in India instead of going abroad would help save foreign exchange. Fadnavis added that UWA’s emergence as a research centre would also benefit Maharashtra’s economy to a great extent.
“The students getting the opportunity to study in India instead of going abroad will help in saving foreign exchange. Since UWA is becoming a research centre, it will also benefit the economy of Maharashtra to a great extent,” Fadnavis said.
The Chief Minister further said agreements signed with international institutions are progressing and would enhance Mumbai’s international significance.
Fadnavis noted that three universities began operations in August, followed by the launch of the UWA campus. Under agreements signed by the Maharashtra government, campuses of other international universities are being developed in phases.
“The current campuses of all these universities will be temporary. The main campuses of all these universities will be set up in Education City in Navi Mumbai. Around 80 thousand to 1 lakh students will study in this Education City,” Fadnavis added.
The planned Education City in Navi Mumbai will serve as the location for the main campuses of the international universities being brought to Maharashtra, while their current campuses will remain temporary as the development progresses.
