Jaishankar’s September 16-17 Bhutan visit focuses on development, energy, trade and connectivity, with meetings in Bumthang and Thimphu and audiences with Bhutan’s King and Prime Minister.
During the visit, Jaishankar met Dhungyel in Bumthang and Thimphu to review cooperation in these areas, with discussions emphasizing trust and goodwill between India and Bhutan.
The agenda also includes audiences with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay. The engagements continue regular high-level exchanges between the two countries under India’s Neighborhood First policy.
Jaishankar’s visit places development, energy, trade, connectivity, culture and people-to-people links at the centre of the ongoing India-Bhutan engagement, with the two sides continuing to focus on strengthening cooperation and maintaining close ties.
