Newlywed Bride Suffers 60% Burns After Fireball at Darjeeling Homestay
Newlywed Nikita Saha suffered burns over 60% of her body after a fireball erupted at a Kurseong homestay. Police are probing CCTV footage after her husband alleged missing fire extinguishers and delayed aid.
Souvik Das and Nikita Saha, who had recently married, were relaxing at Sittong Aura Homestay in Kurseong when a staff member poured an unidentified liquid near the fire. The flames immediately flared up, severely burning Nikita.
Nikita was rushed to hospitals in Siliguri for treatment, while Souvik suffered burns to his hand as he tried to help her during the incident.
Following the incident, Souvik complained to police, alleging that the homestay did not have fire extinguishers and that there was a delay in providing assistance. Police have since begun probing the circumstances surrounding the fire, including examining CCTV footage from the homestay.

The homestay manager, however, has maintained that the staff did their best following the incident. The police investigation is continuing as authorities examine the CCTV footage and the circumstances that led to the sudden flare-up.
The incident has brought the focus of the investigation to the handling of the fire, the availability of fire extinguishing equipment and the response provided immediately after Nikita suffered severe burns.
