For the financial year 2026-27, the Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Department has set a target to provide training to fish farmers and fishermen across the state under the Fisheries Training and Extension Scheme. A total of 332 training batches will be organised across the state.
The training will be provided completely free of cost. It will be conducted at reputed fisheries institutions located both within and outside the state. Participants selected for training outside the state will also receive travel expenses for their journey to and from the training location. However, those attending training at institutions or centres located within the state will not be eligible for travel expenses.
For training at the Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kakinada, a registration fee of Rs 250 will be charged, while the registration fee at other training institutions will be Rs 100.
People engaged in fish farming in private or leased ponds, government ponds or water bodies under water-tax arrangements will be eligible to apply under the scheme. Active members of block-level fishermen cooperative societies will also be considered eligible.
Farmers who want to start fish farming and have been selected by the District Fisheries Office for bank loans, self-financed projects or benefits under fisheries-related schemes will also be eligible for the training. Those who have already applied to the concerned office for such benefits will also get an opportunity to undergo the training.
The objective of the training is not limited to providing technical knowledge. It also aims to increase fish production and, in turn, raise the annual income of fish farmers. Fish farmers who have previously undergone training will be eligible for selection for another training programme only after a gap of three years.
