Addressing ministers, members of Parliament, members of the Legislative Assembly and constituency coordinators during a virtual review meeting, Revanth Reddy described the Special Intensive Revision exercise as a matter of utmost importance and expressed concern over reports indicating that several leaders were not taking the campaign seriously.
He said he would not remain a silent observer if negligence over the Special Intensive Revision damaged the party's interests. Referring to district-wise reports received by the leadership, the Chief Minister said some leaders had failed to give adequate attention to the awareness campaign.
Revanth Reddy set a ten-day deadline for party functionaries to intensify awareness meetings and strengthen grassroots mobilization. He warned that constituency coordinators who failed to implement party directives would be replaced. He stressed that the Congress was committed to protecting the voting rights of economically weaker and vulnerable sections of society.
He further stated that if poor citizens lost their voting rights, they could also face risks related to welfare-linked identity and entitlement systems. The Chief Minister appealed to village heads and local leaders to spread awareness among residents across rural areas.
Under the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision exercise, Booth Level Officers will visit households from June 25 to July 24 to distribute and collect enumeration forms. Draft electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on July 31, while the final electoral rolls are expected to be released on October 1.
Earlier, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi met the Chief Electoral Officer and demanded greater transparency, improved voter assistance and pre-filled forms based on existing electoral data.
Owaisi said the revision process should be transparent, inclusive and voter-friendly and emphasized that genuine voters should not face unnecessary difficulties. He also demanded that the forms be made available in Urdu and English in addition to Telugu.
Meanwhile, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi called for a broader effort to eliminate duplicate and fraudulent voter registrations across states. Party Member of the Legislative Council Dasoju Sravan submitted a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer and advocated the principle of "One Nation, One Citizen, One Vote."
He urged authorities in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to undertake joint verification of electoral rolls and said maintaining multiple voter registrations was undemocratic and punishable under the law.
Amid the growing political debate, Telangana State Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Reddy assured that the primary objective of the Special Intensive Revision was to ensure voting rights for every eligible citizen in the state.
Political tensions surrounding the exercise intensified after the Election Commission identified discrepancies involving nearly 89.88 lakh electors during a pre-revision mapping exercise. Out of Telangana's 3.38 crore registered voters, election officials said that 2.38 crore electors had been mapped so far. The highest number of anomalies was recorded in Rangareddy, Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
The developments have intensified political attention on the electoral revision process, with major parties raising concerns and pressing for safeguards to ensure that every eligible citizen retains the right to vote while discrepancies in the electoral rolls are addressed before the publication of the final list.
