Aseem Chawla Unveils Third Edition of Supreme Court on Company Law Covering Seventy-Five Years of Landmark Judgments
Senior Advocate Aseem Chawla has unveiled the third edition of Supreme Court on Company Law (1950-2025), a three-volume compendium covering seventy-five years of landmark Supreme Court judgments under successive company laws. The publication has received praise from Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice V. Kameswar Rao for its scholarly depth and practical value.
The compendium presents judicial pronouncements arising under the Companies Act, 1913, the Companies Act, 1956, and the Companies Act, 2013 through a pedagogical reference spread across three volumes. Each judgment is accompanied by concise headnotes highlighting the ratio decidendi of the Supreme Court. Relevant paragraphs from the judgments have been specifically identified to facilitate ease of reference. In addition to a nominal index, the publication contains a comprehensive subject index and section index drafted in a lucid and structured manner, substantially enhancing its research and practical value.
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, in his foreword to the publication, described the work as an important and enduring contribution that systematically consolidates authoritative pronouncements under company law. He observed that the third edition provides readers with an opportunity to trace the development of legal principles, understand their doctrinal foundations, and appreciate their adaptation to contemporary realities.
Justice Bhuyan further stated that the third edition reflects sincere effort, meticulous planning, rigorous scholarship, and deep engagement with the subject. According to him, the arrangement of judgments covering the Companies Act, 1913, the Companies Act, 1956, and the Companies Act, 2013 in chronological sequence demonstrates a clear understanding of the requirements of legal professionals and academics who rely on such reference material.
Justice V. Kameswar Rao of the Delhi High Court, in his testimonial, noted that the work comprehensively covers Supreme Court judgments delivered from 1950 to 2025 and presents them in a systematic and easily accessible format. He stated that the distinguishing feature of the compendium lies not only in the compilation of decided cases but also in tracing the evolution of company law jurisprudence across changing statutory frameworks.
